Drivers still paying more than a dollar extra per gallon compared to June 2025

) - Gas prices in Alabama have dropped over the past week, but drivers are still paying significantly more than they were this time last year.

AAA says gas prices have been on the decline over the past week as crude oil prices continue to fall. The drop in oil prices follows optimism surrounding peace talks and ceasefire negotiations involving Iran, helping ease concerns about disruptions to global oil supplies, including shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. According to AAA, the average price of gas in Alabama on Wednesday is about $3.89 a gallon. That’s down from $3.92 on Tuesday.

But prices are still much higher than this time last year. In June 2025, the average price of gas in Alabama was $2.74 a gallon.

“Maybe it’s where you get it in the city but it’s been pretty high, you can always have hope but with the economy right now I don’t see it happening,” said John Hilliard. “I filled my car up the other day and it was $80 so I haven’t noticed,” said Theophilus Hudson. “I mean you kinda can see it, but not really. A little bit it’s gone down a little bit.

Anything probably helps now,” said Chris, a local driver. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gas has fallen 12 cents over the past week to $4.42. AAA says lower crude oil prices have helped bring costs down, but analysts warn the situation remains fragile. If ceasefire talks fail or tensions escalate, oil prices could spike again, sending gas prices back up.

Drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, but with global events continuing to influence oil markets, experts say gas prices could change quickly in the weeks ahead.
