Jalen Milroe leads the No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide against the Michigan Wolverines in the ReliaQuest Bowl today. Both programs have dropped from the 2023-’24 College Football Playoff into the opening act for this year’s quarterfinal round. The Wolverines are reigning national champions who defeated the Crimson Tide in overtime in the semifinal round nearly one year ago to the day.
Michigan fell on harder times in the regular season, but saved the campaign at the end with a win over Northwestern (50-6) and a fourth straight win over rival Ohio State (13-10). Still, the Wolverines are 15-point underdogs in this postseason rematch facing a talented Alabama team that twice stumbled in games against unranked teams, first falling to Vanderbilt (40-35) on Oct. 5 and then sliding out of playoff position with a loss to Oklahoma (24-3) on Nov. 23.
