A new Alabama bill requires the Board of Pardons and Paroles to provide information on restoring voter registration rights after a conviction. The bill establishes a system for individuals to check their status and submit eligibility certifications electronically, receiving bipartisan support in the Senate.

says that the Board of Pardons and Paroles has to have information about how people can restore their voter registration after a conviction. “I do think that it’s going to make a difference in just the confidence building of people who have been through that process and are out on their own,” said Sen.

Linda Coleman-Madison . The site would allow Alabamians to search their status using their given Alabama Institutional Serial number. There would be instructions to electronically submit their voting eligibility certification. “These are people that are getting out anyway,” said Sen. Coleman-Madison. “They have served their time; they have paid whatever restitution or whatever court requirements that they had. It’s only fair that they be given a second chance to get their lives together.” The bill got bipartisan support in the senate, while a handful of House Republicans abstained from the vote, and three House Republicans voted ‘no.’Harley-Davidson issues recall of several motorcycles for potential rear brake failureHuntsville family identified as people killed in South Carolina plane crash
