Alabama basketball suffered a disappointing 78-64 loss to Ole Miss, prompting a scathing critique from head coach Nate Oats. Oats expressed his frustration over his team's lack of preparation, effort, and execution, pointing to their poor shooting, excessive turnovers, and minimal offensive rebounding. Oats challenged his players, particularly the senior leadership, to step up and take responsibility for their performance.
Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats expressed his disappointment and frustration after his team's lackluster performance in a 78-64 loss to Ole Miss . The Crimson Tide entered the game riding high from a road SEC win at Texas A&M, but Oats was left bewildered by his team's lack of preparation and effort. 'It's disgusting to be honest with you,' Oats said.
'With the amount of fifth-year seniors that we have and the leadership that should be shown on this team, to have guys not come in ready to play. Look, it starts with me, because I'm supposed to be the one motivating these guys and I obviously didn't motivate them very well to make sure they're ready. So I'm gonna have to looking in the mirror to see what I did, didn't do. 'Have to have a good talk with some of these seniors that are supposed to be our leaders and figure out why we weren't ready to go tonight, because it's very disappointing and it's disgusting and it's frustrating.'Alabama's struggles extended beyond a lack of energy. The Tide's shooting remained inconsistent, making just 20 of 27 field goal attempts and a dismal 5 of 20 from three-point range. They also missed seven free throws. Adding to their woes, Alabama committed 21 turnovers, allowing Ole Miss to capitalize and score 19 points off those mistakes. 'They put a lot of pressure on us,' said Alabama forward Jarin Stevenson. 'We committed some turnovers, felt like that hurt us a lot.' Oats was particularly concerned about his team's lack of effort on the offensive glass, a key element that had been fueling their offense in previous games.'Maybe the most disappointing thing of the night in my opinion was our lack of effort on the offensive glass,' Oats admitted. 'I don't know if our guys didn't realize that's what's been keeping our offense going.' Alabama will need to regroup quickly as they face a daunting challenge on the road against No. 8 Kentucky on Saturday. Oats emphasized the importance of individual accountability and hard work for his players moving forward. 'You gotta earn the right to play well,' Oats stated. 'Like, are you spending enough time in the gym, working on your game outside of practice, or are we having to beg you to get in the gym?
