) - Officials with Alabama A&M University have confirmed that its offer to buy the Birmingham-Southern College campus has failed.
With its closure, AAMU officials saw an opportunity for expansion and extended an its initial offer for the campus in late April.The initial offer was $52 million, which included $22 million in cash and a $30 million investment for maintenance, repairs and upgrades to the campus. Following this, AAMU officials increased its offer by $13.5 million bringing the full offer to $65.5 million.
“Our BSC offer was not accepted. With no deal in Birmingham, we will shift our resources to be invested on our main campus in Huntsville as we achieved record enrollment in the 2023-2024 academic year.”AAMU has steadily increased freshmen enrollment since 2019, with last year setting a new record for the institution.
