Sheikh Diab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Al-Wehda Sports and Cultural Club is said to have phoned the technical director Arno Buitenweg to inform him of the decision.The UAE club are currently sitting in fourth position and five points behind Shabab Al Ahli.
Buitenweg has previously worked with LaLiga side RCD Mallorca, where he spent five years in multiple roles, including as football co-ordinator, while he also took charge of Qatar's U17 team between 2013 and 2017. The 51-year-old has an AFC Pro Licence and UEFA A Licence, which allows him to coach at the highest level on the Asian and European continents.
