Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau has spent the last month on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury to his thigh in training ahead of Al Ahly's Egypt Cup quarter-final clash against Pyramids FC.
The injury was sustained on 24 June and left the former Mamelodi Sundowns star in a race against time to be fit for the club's Egypt Cup final against Zamalek, which is scheduled to take place in Cairo on Thursday. It now appears as though Tau has lost that race, with the 28-year-old conspicuously absent from the club's closed training camp which convened on Tuesday.
The timing of his absence comes as the latest blow to Tau's prospects at Ahly where he was previously ruled out of the club's involvement at the FIFA World Cup through injury earlier this year as well.Mohamed Abdelmonem is fit to feature after returning from a nose injury to start in Ahly's mid-week league defeat to Pyramids.
This year's edition of the Egypt Cup will mark the 100th year since the competition was first played, with Zamalek having overcome Ittihad Alexandria 5-0 in the inaugural final back in the 1921/22 season.
