Morgan Park is open following two years of redesign work and upgrades. Recent additions include new basketball courts, a pavilion and a walking path.
The first improvement for the park, located at 419 Morgan Ave., was the June, 2022 installation of a community-designed playground. The playground was made possible by a partnership with Kaboom!Resurfacing three basketball courts and the installation of six new backboards and postsA mural created by artist Dara Harper of Art Only Boutiquein 2022 to try to secure funds to improve the park.
Residents Dan and Kelly Pucci requested assistance from the park collaborative to improve the park, and it was selected to receive $150,000 during the 2023 Akron Parks Challenge. South Street Ministries helped with the application process.Community engagement was at the forefront of the park redesign: Through a collaboration with Build Akron and Buchtel Community Learning Center’s masonry program, students installed stone pillars in the pavilion.
