Calling the shooting “excessive force,” the NAACP is calling for Ohio Attorney General David Yost to assign a special prosecutor to the case. It is also seeking a thorough and factual investigation, accountability for the officers involved and an end to car chases for minor violations. Protesters pushed for greater police accountability in the death of Walker, 25. In a demonstration that was streamed by WEWS-TV, residents demanded more from the city and its police force.
The NAACP also demanded that there be state and federal oversight over the city’s police department. It noted that recommendations made by task forces on equity have never been implemented. It is seeking a public performance dashboard that would use racial metric to gain insight into officers’ performance.
