The curfew that had been instated after protests erupted in the city following the shooting of Jayland Walker by Akron police is now lifted.

Citing no additional safety concerns, Mayor Daniel Horrigan signed an executive order lifting the curfew that was first put in place on the Fourth of July. It was a reaction to protests spurred by thethat showed the car- and foot-chase that ended in the shooting of 25-year-old Walker. The curfew was initially lifted on July 6, then put back in place after more protests led to several arrests. In a Friday press release, Horrigan noted he had intended to terminate the curfew if there were no additional concerns to public safety overnight.
