SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio - A 25-year-old Akron man convicted last week of a 2021 murder will be sentenced Monday in Summit County Court of Common Pleas.
A jury found Desean Williamson, 25, guilty of murder and felonious assault for the fatal shooting of Gage Zirke, 20.Zirke was found shot to death in his car in the area of 11th Street and West Wilbeth Road on July 25, 2021.Williamson was arrested by members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force in March 2023 at a home in Akron.
A second man, Teion Thompson, 22, of Akron, pleaded guilty in May to obstructing justice. He was Williamson’s getaway driver from the shooting. “Thank you to the jury, prosecutors, police officers, and victim advocates for their dedication and hard work in holding Desean Williamson accountable. Summit County’s streets are safer with Williamson behind bars,” said Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich.
