Eddie Dukes Jr., 63, was convicted by a jury last week of raping a girl under the age of 13, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said.
AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the rape of a young female family member in 2021.
Eddie Dukes Jr., 63, will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said. Common Pleas Court Judge Christine Croce also found Dukes guilty of the repeat violent offender specification for multiple prior felony convictions and designated Dukes as a Tier III sex offender.
Tuesday’s sentencing comes after Dukes was convicted by a jury last week of two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition, all felonies. According to prosecutors, Dukes sexually assaulted the victim, a girl under the age of 13, in June 2021 while the victim was staying at a family member’s home. Walsh said the victim was accompanied by the county’s facility dog, Avery, when she testified during the trial. Avery is a Labrador/retriever mix whose primary job is to provide emotional support to adults with developmental disabilities and children who are victims of crime.
