The clerk has been charged with negligent homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor, for allegedly shooting 48-year-old Torres Bruster during a dispute with another customer. After being in a coma for the last 6 weeks, Bruster died Wednesday.
AKRON, Ohio — A cashier at an Akron gas station was charged with negligent homicide Thursday, police said, six weeks after shooting an innocent bystander during a dispute with another customer and one day after the bystander died after being taken off of life support.
During the encounter, the irate customer reportedly made threats to kill the cashier, began damaging the store and tried to grab her through a plexiglass divider. A male employee called 911. "He was standing there like everybody else in line. It was not his business. He was not involved. He had nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, he was shot by the worker in the store," said Charles Tyler, an attorney representing the Bruster family.
