AirPods Pro: Apple hints at an amazing new direction for future AirPods
Apple executives are skilled at not saying more than they should, but that indicates to me that such a development may be under consideration.
Think of it, using the microphone, accelerometer and so on to add to the data collected by Apple Watch and iPhone could be a powerful combination. One of the features promised in iOS 15 is walking steadiness. Where fall detection can help people get help when they fall, walking steadiness is all about predicting whether a fall seems more likely. If the metrics suggest that someone is walking less steadily as time goes on, then an intervention by your iPhone to say steadiness is declining, accompanied by exercises to boost steadiness, could be very impactful.
That’s also helped by another iOS 15 feature which will spot trends, good or bad in your health. If you’ve been using Apple Watch since its first arrival in Spring 2015, then there’s more than six years of data for Apple to analyze. So, adding up everything that’s learnt from iPhone, Apple Watch and, in the future, AirPods, is a compelling combination.
