An aircraft tug collided with a landing plane at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, critically injuring the tug driver. The FAA and Chicago police are investigating the cause of the accident.

CHICAGO - A worker at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport sustained critical injuries on Saturday evening when an aircraft tug collided with a recently landed plane as it was navigating towards a gate. The incident, reported to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at approximately 7:35 p.m. local time, involved Air Wisconsin Flight 6181, a regional airline operating under the American Eagle banner for American Airlines.

According to Chicago police, the collision resulted in the tug flipping over, trapping the driver underneath. The 64-year-old male driver was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition, suffering from head and lower body injuries. Authorities reported that he was stabilized at the hospital. The FAA confirmed that the Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft had arrived from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Fortunately, there were no passenger injuries reported by the Chicago Department of Aviation. The department stated that the collision had minimal impact on airport operations, adding that all passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft and transported to the terminal by bus. American Airlines issued a statement emphasizing the paramount importance of customer and team member safety, and expressed their commitment to reviewing the incident thoroughly. They also noted the driver was a contracted employee of United Airlines, and United Airlines assured that they were ensuring the driver receives appropriate support and care. The FAA is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision. This incident occurred amidst a series of recent aviation accidents, including a helicopter crash in Philadelphia that claimed seven lives, and a midair collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, D.C., resulting in the deaths of all 67 individuals on board both aircraft
