BREAKING: Airline company AirAsia Philippines said Friday it retrenched 12 percent of its employees in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Despite all our efforts to curb the effects of the pandemic, AirAsia has made the difficult decision of reducing the company's workforce, but has done everything to keep the number of affected employees to a minimum, totalling 12% of all Filipino Allstars," the company said in a statement, referring to its employees.
The company said senior officials in the AirAsia Group took pay cuts to ease the financial burden of employees. "Both the management and senior employees of AirAsia Group have volunteered a salary sacrifice, ranging from 100% at the very top to 15%," it said in an earlier statement.AirAsia is the third airline company to announce a retrenchment due to the pandemic. The others are Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
