Lawsuit accuses AI Chatbot of encouraging autistic teen to murder his parents
AI chatbots pushed a Texas teen to start cutting himself and even brought up kids killing their parents because they were limiting his screen time, a shocking new lawsuit claims.
The teen — who is now 17 — lost 20 pounds within just a few months, became violent toward his parents — biting and punching them — and eventually starting to harm himself and having suicidal thoughts, the court papers said. The bots accused the parents of neglecting him while also claiming they were overprotective, manipulative and abusive, the suit claims. One of the many screenshots that the suit claims depicts the chatbot reinforcing ideas that his parents did not care for him.The parents took away the phone he downloaded Character.AI on but J.F.
The lawsuit is seeking for Character.AI to be taken off of the market until it can ensure that no children will be allowed to use it and until it can fix any other dangers.“Defendants intentionally designed and programmed to operate as a deceptive and hypersexualized product knowingly marketed it to vulnerable users like J.F. and B.F.,” the suit alleges.
