A new Ahsoka theory suggests that the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn will also feature a major new superweapon - and it isn't clones. As teased in The Mandalorian season 3 and confirmed in the trailers for Ahsoka, the long-lost Imperial tactician will be making his return to the galaxy proper, having been absent ever since his disappearance in the Star Wars Rebels animated series' finale.
Although Thrawn might have ended the Rebel Alliance before their attack on the first Death Star, his ultimate confrontation with Jedi Ezra Bridger saw the both of them vanishing into the Unknown Regions just prior to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope. Despite being gone for years and missing the demise of Vader, Palpatine, and both Death Stars, The Mandalorian season 3 confirmed that Thrawn has become a key leader of the Imperial Remnant.
In Legends, the Dark Force Fleet was composed of 200 heavy cruisers built by the Republic just prior to its transformation into Palpatine's Empire. However, a hive virus struck the entire crew, which resulted in the whole fleet blind-jumping into hyperspace, where it was lost for decades. The fleet was eventually found by Thrawn, who naturally claimed the vast majority as his own.
