While at StarWarsCelebration, Screen Rant spoke to the cast and crew of Ahsoka to discuss the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, villains wielding orange lightsabers, and the continuation of StarWarsRebels storylines:
Ahsoka will follow the once-Jedi as she investigates a rising threat to the New Republic, Grand Admiral Thrawn, with the help of Ghost Crew's Sabine Wren and Her Syndulla. The trio will also search for their long-missing friend, Jedi Padawan Ezra Bridger, who disappeared before the destruction of the Death Star with Thrawn.
When I started, I had so much to learn. I still look back and can't believe sometimes that George stuck it out with me. He must have thought, "This guy, he really has got a long way to go." But he put in a lot of time and did a lot of Jedi training. Each episode felt like a paper that was reviewing how much we were all learning in the animation division.
Kathleen and John had those tremendous things to say about you, so congratulations on this film. Is this a combination of Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian television series converging in this film? What challenges does the New Republic face in this film? If you look at the trailer, there's already some clues, you might say. I hope it's just going to be fun for everybody. I'm excited to be in a position to tell these stories.
We know that Ray [Stevenson] and Ivanna [Sakhno ] are playing Baylon and Shin Hati, but are they wielding orange lightsabers? And what does that color signify? He has worked so hard in everything that he's done; the animation has been fantastic. And now he's evolving from going into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and seeing these characters actually come to life. The great thing is that Dave gets to learn along the way, and see these characters evolving in real time with him; he's continuing that iteration. So, he's gonna do something great. That I know.
Rosario Dawson: I think that you're still gonna see her stubborn, which I don't think she's totally graduated out of. When you first saw her, she was super hot-headed and maybe a little bit more impulsive, so there is absolutely a lot of experience and a lot of wisdom there. She's made some really hard choices in her life, and I think they've had a really intense effect on her.
Rosario Dawson: Back to that complexity, you know? They've gone through a lot, and I think it's worn them down in a lot of ways. They're true believers, so they've really kept vigilance. And thank God that they have, because as you can see, Thrawn is still very much alive and well, even though people think that he is not.
How has Thrawn changed since disappearing at the end of Rebels, especially after the fall of the Empire? You and your husband have something in common; you guys both entered the Star Wars universe with characters that were already established. Did Ewan give you any advice about entering the Star Wars universe, and would you want to see your two characters team up on screen?
Screen Rant: Now we know your character's name is Baylon, and we know that Shin is his apprentice. What else can you tell us about Baylon and his relationship with Thrawn? Watching the trailer, we noticed that you're wielding an orange lightsaber, which Dave confirmed for us. What does the orange lightsaber signify? Because Dave said nothing is unintentional, but nothing is what it seems. What can you say about your lightsaber?
Talk to me about your character's connection to Thrawn, and this brewing Imperial uprising that the Mandalorian has been setting up the season.
