Ahsoka has some of the most thrilling lightsaber duels in any Star Wars TV show, yet Ahsoka fails to fight properly in the most important battle.

But one of Ahsoka’s most important duels had a massive problem that the show failed to address. Throughout the series, Rosario Dawson shows off Ahsoka Tano’s advanced lightsaber skills against a plethora of opponents, from Ray Stevenson’s fearsome Baylan Skoll to Morgan Elsbeth’s HK-87 assassin droids.
Ahsoka’s journey in the series is one of accepting who she’s become. Her duel with Anakin represented her grappling with her training as a solider in the Clone Wars. At first, she is terrified of following the same path Anakin did, and this almost leads her to reject a crucial part of herself. But she comes to realize that Anakin was a good master. He taught her to look out for herself, and Anakin’s final lesson helped Ahsoka become a Jedi, rather than just a warrior.
Ahsoka Forgot All Her Training During Her Duel With Baylan Despite coming to terms with her past, Ahsoka still fails to draw upon her training in her duel with Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka episode 4. One of the biggest reasons she used two lightsabers in Star Wars: The Clone Wars was due to the extra defense and offense they afforded her. Anakin knew she’d come up against other lightsaber-wielders during the war, such as Asajj Ventress and General Grievous.
For whatever reason, Ahsoka forgets the second lightsaber hanging on her belt and only fights Baylan with one. Ultimately, this led to her being overpowered by Baylan. Had she adhered to Anakin’s teaching and fought with both sabers from the beginning, she may have been able to destroy the starmap before Elsbeth and the others ever managed to make it to Peridea, effectively cutting the series in half. Nevertheless, her blunder ultimately led to Baylan’s group succeeding.
Why Did Ahsoka Only Use One Lightsaber? There are plenty of reasons why Ahsoka only fought Baylan with one lightsaber. One theory suggests she wished to have both hands on one saber in order to counter Baylan’s powerful strikes. Another theory is she wanted one hand free to grab the starmap if the opportunity arose mid-battle. But neither of these options are satisfactory. In any case, Ahsoka redeemed herself in episode 7 by fighting Baylan with both sabers.
