Ahsoka is saving some of the New Republic's pride.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary The Ahsoka show has retconned one of the biggest plot holes in Star Wars: The Force Awakens regarding the New Republic. Ahsoka's new undertaking in the latest Star Wars series requires her to work closely with the New Republic as she sets out to find Grand Admiral Thrawn following whispers of his return.

One of the allies Ahsoka works the closest with is the beloved Star Wars Rebels character Hera Syndulla, who held the rank of general in the Rebellion. She has gone on to maintain that rank amidst the creation and rise of the New Republic.

Ahsoka Confirmed The New Republic Has A Defense Fleet The New Republic Defense Fleet is where Hera spends her time, now, helping the rising government keep its unsteady foothold over the galaxy. Ahsoka visits Hera within this fleet in Ahsoka episode 1, a visual that only further disproves what was previously established about the New Republic's naval forces.

Why We Didn't See The New Republic Defense Fleet In The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy Star Wars has already started to address the shortcomings of the New Republic in the Disney+ series, which finds the new government continuously misguided. When large-scale threats resurfaced during The Mandalorian season 3, the New Republic showed favoritism in focusing on allied planets and systems rather than providing assistance to those in need.

With influential New Republic leaders such as Leia Organa herself spearheading the Resistance, it's also possible that New Republic officials felt vulnerable without their trusty guides, electing to play it safe by staying stationed at home while they reorganized their ranks. It makes sense that the New Republic has a Defense Fleet, even if they didn't aid in the efforts shown in The Force Awakens or the following sequel films.
