A local organization on Saturday gave back to dads and their families who need a little extra love and support. Compassion's Way hosted the event for those living on the streets, in tents or in shelters. They gave out clothing, shoes, bus passes and hygiene kits. Families also enjoyed the barbecue. Compassion's Way co-founder Salema Rice said she wants to give back to the community to give them a better tomorrow.
"We want to help the underserved; I mean that’s really our bloodline," she said. "I tell everybody this is how we make a life by helping others and being there for others. Everybody today is literally a paycheck away from being in a very awful position, and we just love being able to get out here and be a part of the community."Compassion's Way served hundreds of people Saturday, marking the seventh year the group has given back.
