Drew Weisholtz is a reporter for TODAY Digital, focusing on pop culture, nostalgia and trending stories. He has seen every episode of “Saved by the Bell” at least 50 times, longs to perfect the crane kick from “The Karate Kid” and performs stand-up comedy, while also cheering on the New York Yankees and New York Giants.

“America’s Got Talent” has struck gold. The June 4 episode marked a first for the NBC talent competition when judge Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer twice. Cowell made the unprecedented move after watching Dallas-based drone lights act Sky Elements put on a show that was so big in scope the performance had to be moved outside.

After there appeared to be some confusion about whether he could use another Golden Buzzer, a show producer stepped in to ask Cowell about his decision. “I just thought, ‘Why not?’” he said. “There’s nothing in the rules that say we couldn’t.” After he told Cowell that there are rules, the producer eventually agreed to judge's use of a second Golden Buzzer, which was also extended to the other judges.
