These high-end IEMs from AFUL feature 14 drivers in each earpiece consisting of one dynamic, eight balanced armatures, four electrostatic and one bone conducting unit.
Technology journalist specializing in audio, computing and Apple Macs. The new Dawn-X IEMs from AFUL are contained in wooden housings with unique grain patterns and textures.may not be one of the best-known makers of In-Ear Monitors, but the company has already chalked up some notable successes with its Performer Series and the Cantor, an IEM that uses only balanced armature drivers.
Now AFUL has announced the Dawn-X, a pair or IEMs with a blend of artistry and modern hardware designed to deliver high-end audiophile sound. Each Dawn-X earpiece contains no fewer than 14 drivers in a Quad-brid setup. AFUL has used a single dynamic driver, eight balanced armatures, four electrostatic units and a single bone conducting driver. This powerful 14-driver design uses innovative crossover technologies developed in-house by AFUL. The proprietary technologies include 3D micro-resonance acoustic path technology, wideband electrostatic technology, multi-dimensional 6-way crossover, high-damping air-pressure balance system and RLC network crossover technology, AFUL has high hopes for the Dawn-X IEMs. Each Dawn-X IME contains 14 drivers consisting of a single dynamic driver, eight balanced armature units, four electrostatic drivers and a single bone conduction driver. With the 3D micro-resonance acoustic path technology, AFUL has designed complex acoustic chambers for each of the different types of driver. This helps the Dawn-X to produce a seamless and distortion-free sound across so many drivers. Each chamber is scientifically designed using advanced calculations to get the best sound out of each driver type.Unlike typical electrostatic IEMs, where the implementation is usually in the ultra-high frequency region above 9kHz, the Dawn-X use wideband electrostatic technology where the output of the drivers is tuned for the 5kHz range. AFUL claims this produces a more natural, airy and rich treble response with good extensions. AFUL has used a unique combination of six-way electronic and physical driver crossovers which it has combined with RLC network frequency division correction that delivers an ultra-smooth and resonance-free sound. Every pair ion Dawn-X is shipped with a high-purity 6N single-crystal copper cable in an 8-strand Litz braided structure. The cable has 0.78mm 2-pin connectors and a 4.4mm balanced jack plug. Finally, the high-damping air-pressure balancing system designed for the AFUL Performer8 is also being used on the Dawn-X. It not only provides a comfortable wearing experience by releasing any air pressure that builds up in the listener’s ear canal but it also enhances the bass texture with a powerful and controlled slam.Every unit of the AFUL Dawn-X has housings made from high-quality and solid-stabilized wood. Each unit features a unique grain pattern and no two earpieces appear the same because of the unique and textured pattern on each shell. With their ergonomic shape, the Dawn-X are designed to provide a comfortable fit, especially for long listening sessions. Every pair ships with a high-purity 6N single-crystal copper cable in an 8-strand Litz braided construction. The cable uses 0.78mm 2-pin connectors at the earpiece end and a Pentaconn 4.4mm balanced jack plug termination. With its complex and precise audio architecture across 14 drivers along with a striking appearance, the AFUL Dawn-X should make an impact on the high-end IEM market.
