UPDATE: The 3.5 magnitude quake south of Gilroy has been followed by a couple of aftershocks of magnitudes 3.3 and 2.5, according to the USGS.
The quake hit at 9:15 a.m. and was centered about 15 miles south of Gilroy and about 2.5 miles south of San Juan Bautista , the USGS said.And the latest aftershock, a 2.5 magnitude one, was recorded at 12:09 p.m. in the same area.No other information was immediately available.
