Antonian baseball coach David Collenback will be leading his team into the TAPPS state tournament after defeating No. 1 Plano Prestonwood on the road.Antonian baseball has navigated the toughest path to the TAPPS state tournament.
The victory locked up Antonian’s first TAPPS state semifinal berth. The Apaches’ other state semifinal appearances occurred in 1971, 1975 and 1976 when they competed in TCIL. Antonian won the 1971 TCIL state title. “Everybody knows this is an underdog story,” senior catcher Rohan Naik said. “Nobody thought we could do this except us because we know what we’re capable of doing, and we know we can beat any team in the tournament.”
“It shows that baseball is a sport where anything can happen,” Szewc said. “You don’t need a team full of all-stars to win a game. I really think if you are able to have good team chemistry, you can do anything that needs to be done.”
