“MVAH is proud to provide diverse housing options to the citizens of Mesquite,” says Darren Smith, MVAH’s head of development for the southwest region. “There hasn’t been workforce-affordable housing development approved since 2013. The vote came after a heated debate where many residents spoke of the need for more affordable housing in the city — a problem that third-party audits have documented for decades.almost 5% over the last decade.
The resolution was a key piece of MVAH Partners’ financing application to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs’ competitive tax credits program. Winning funding is conditional upon the city’s approval of the $26 million project. The complex, which will have a leasing preference for veterans and military families, will have gross restricted rents up to $1,001 for one bedroom, $1,201 for two bedrooms and $1,389 for a three-bedroom unit.
