When Clayton Maple handed the Kingwood Park offense over to Bruce Cox, it was a sign of trust.Santa Fe shuts out Kingwood Park, advances to Region III-5A final“I think after my first year as offensive coordinator is when I realized that might be something I wanted to do. The last couple years it sunk in that this is something that I can really pursue.” Cox is leaving Kingwood Park after 10 seasons and will be heading to Princeton High School to be the passing game coordinator and quarterback’s coach.Cox worked in the fall as the offensive coordinator and then was the coach for the baseball team at Kingwood Park. Working year round helped him develop several relationships with his players to where the student-athletes would trust him on the football field or on the baseball diamond. On the baseball team he would have alumni come back and speak to the team about what it means to play for K-Park. “K-Park is a tough place to leave man,” Cox said. “It’s a really good school. One of the best schools I have worked at, and I built great relationships with people over the last 10 years. I’m really looking forward to my next opportunity.”There’s a lot of growth going on in Princeton Independent School District and will possibly add two new schools to the district in a couple of years. “I have known the offensive coordinator at Princeton for quite some time now,” Cox said. “They have great facilities and a great program. They’re opening up another high school and will probably add one more. So, the opportunity to grow in this district and potentially be a head coach was the biggest draw for me and my family.”On the football field Cox helped K-Park make it to the playoffs for three-straight seasons from 2017-2019, which had never been done in school history. On the baseball diamond he helped the Panthers reach the Class 5A state tournament back in 2018 for the first time in school history.Cox learned a lot working in Humble ISD and at K-Park High School. He will use the lessons he learned and take them with him as he heads off to Princeton to pursue his dream of being a head football coach under the Friday night lights. “I learned a lot here in Humble ISD,” Cox said. “I know that I grew as a better coach and man being at K-Park. It all comes down to relationships with the kids and the coaching staff. You have to be together like a family or you will not have success. It was tough leaving for sure again, but I’m grateful for my time at K-Park and I look forward to my future.”
