Carolyn Ellis closed her downtown Scottsdale brunch restaurant. But it's not over for Arcadia Farms. Here's what's next for the market, afternoon tea.
Chef and owner Carolyn Ellis opened Arcadia Farms Café in 1990 as a takeout market and bakery. Over the years, the business grew into three parts: a charming cottage that served breakfast, lunch and brunch; a marketplace selling local goods, drinks and quick bites and an event space that hosted afternoon tea and private parties.
Ellis wanted to build a community around food and succeeded through the years. She worked closely with local farms, stores and bakers, such as Crow’s Dairy, Two Wash Ranch, Chula Seafood and Noble Bread. Regulars and newcomers alike enjoyed the delicious pastries, quiches, sandwiches, salads and omelets alongside specialty mimosas, including a popular lavender mimosa, while making memories in the cottage or on the garden patios.
Recently, Ellis sold the cottage at 7014 E. First Avenue, but she will keep the market next door and the event space across the street. According to the staff, the restaurant will reopen in what is now the event space after a month of renovations. As for afternoon tea, fans should worry not, they plan to still offer the annual service this year from Dec.18 to 23.
