After 2 losses to start trip, Dynamo shift gears to U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against Chicago
The Dynamo's Ivan Franco is held back by St. Louis City's Tim Parker during Houston's 6-2 road loss Saturday. Franco was one of three Houston players to receive a yellow card during first-half stoppage time.Getting outscored 9-2 in their last two MLS games doesn’t sit well with the Dynamo. Now, as they face a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal at Chicago on Tuesday night, defender Erik Sviatchenko says they can't take an opportunity to win a trophy for granted and have to play hungry.
Tuesday night's 7:30 game at SeatGeek Stadium marks the first Cup meeting between Houston and Chicago. The Dynamo won 2-0 at home when they last met in league play last June. Houston hasn't won at Chicago since 2018, however. Chicago, tied for second-to-last in the MLS standings, is coming off a 1-0 loss to first-place Cincinnati in an Eastern Conference match. It reached the Cup quarterfinals by beating Chicago House 3-0, St. Louis 2-1, and Austin 2-0.
Although Houston failed to score in the latter game, they did outshoot St. Louis 16-11 and held about 51.2 percent possession. In some attempts, coach Ben Olsen said, the team was just a final ball away from rewarding itself.
