This year's top three juniors and top three seniors from South Africa will be competing in the 6th African Spelling Bee in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The African Spelling Bee was inspired by the 2006 movie Akeelah and the Bee, this according to Roger Dickinson, the founder of African Spelling Bee . He said when the team initially introduced the spelling bee to the country, South Africa ns used to call it the Spelling BEE because nobody really understood what ‘bee’ meantand what it had to do with spelling, and BEE was a more relatable concept to the people of Mzansi.
