Nearly 300 children have been safely rescued from an orphanage in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, aid agencies say. They had been staying at the Mygoma Orphanage, where more than 70 children are reported to have died from hunger and illness.

Live footage from Arab satellite channels on Wednesday June 7, 2023 showed a large fire and columns of smoke billowing from the fuel-storage site, which is close to an army base and the weapons manufacturing company. The arms firm that owns the site - one of the biggest in Africa - operates in the Yarmouk residential area and civilians there said they fear the fire will eventually engulf entire neighbourhoods in southern Khartoum. The Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have fought to control the key facilities surrounding the base since late on Tuesday. Clashes have intensified between Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the suspension of the Jeddah negotiation talks. Radio Dabanga reports that callers from central Khartoum said that they had heard the sound of heavy weapons fire. The Resistance Committee of Imtidad Nasir neighbourhood in Khartoum posted on social media that "three people were killed and 10 buildings destroyed by airstrikes". Other callers from Omdurman told Radio Dabanga that there are loud sounds coming from the south of the town, with "fighter jets... roaring all the time".

Air Strikes On Sudan Campus Kills DR Congo Nationals - GovtThe Democratic Republic of Congo's government has said ten of its citizens died after their university campus was "bombarded" in air strikes in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, on Sunday. Minister Christophe Lutundula said there were indications that the air strikes were "carried out by the regular army on an area occupied by civilian and unarmed populations, including foreign nationals, seriously wounded other compatriots". Meanwhile, Kenya announced it has closed its embassy in Khartoum following reports of increased attacks targeting diplomatic officials. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Singoei, announced on Sunday that while the embassy had initially remained open to facilitate the evacuation of Kenyan citizens the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) necessitated its closure. Khartoum has been at the centre of fighting between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since 15 April, with civilians caught in the crossfire. DR Congo's government has called for a humanitarian corridor to enable it to evacuate its wounded citizens and others still stranded in Khartoum.
