Protests by trade union members in Nigeria are being held across the country, following high fuel prices and inflation which were caused by the removal of a fuel subsidy. Talks between the unions and the government failed to reach a deal on Tuesday.

Since April the security situation in Amhara has been deteriorating following the decision to disband the region’s state-backed paramilitary group. Amhara militias - referred to as Fano - now have control of the airport, according to activists and media outlets linked to them. The BBC has not been able to independently confirm this.
