Aeromexico takes the crown for on-time arrivals in 2024, surpassing other airlines globally. Delta Air Lines claims the top spot among U.S. carriers, demonstrating resilience in the face of operational challenges.
Mexican airline Aeromexico had the world’s best record for on-time arrivals in 2024, according to new analysis. Delta Air Lines was the top-ranked U.S. carrier. Aviation -data provider Cirium’s annual On-Time Performance Review found 86.7% of Aeromexico flights were at the gate within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival, a widely used measure of on-time performance.
The Mexico City-based carrier is the third-largest international airline by passenger counts at San Antonio International Airport. It’s the fifth-largest at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Saudia Airlines, the flagship carrier of Saudi Arabia, jumped to second at 86.35% and Delta rounded out the global top three with 83.46% of its flights making on-time arrivals. Atlanta-based Delta moved up from fourth a year ago despite a July computer outage that caused thousands of flight cancellations. “Delta rebounded, showcasing their effective crisis management and the depth of their operational infrastructure,” Cirium said Thursday in its closely-watched report. Delta is the fourth-largest domestic carrier at San Antonio and third-largest at Austin. It was followed in Cirium's ranking of domestic airlines by United Airlines at 80.93%; Alaska Airlines at 79.25% and American Airlines at 77.78%. The biggest carrier by passenger counts at both airports is Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, which ranked fifth with 77.77% of its flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Cirium has rated airlines for timeliness for 16 years. In the latest report, CEO Jeremy Bowen said 2024 was an especially difficult year for airlines due to severe weather patterns and the summer technology outage.
