Aeromexico has climbed to the top spot for on-time performance among global airlines in Cirium 's latest report, achieving a remarkable 9% improvement. This surge from outside the top 10 to the No. 1 position is considered unprecedented. Cirium attributes Aeromexico 's success to its strong company culture, investments in new equipment, and close collaboration with its hub at Mexico City International Airport, which ranked fourth globally for on-time flights.
According to the report, Delta Air Lines placed third with 83.46% on-time performance, followed by Latam Airlines (82.89%) and Qatar Airways (82.83%). Delta was awarded the title of 'best global airline for operational excellence' for the fourth consecutive year, recognizing its consistent punctuality and scale. Cirium noted that a recent software update from CrowdStrike, which unintentionally grounded thousands of flights, particularly those operated by Delta, negatively impacted the overall industry punctuality. On-time performance is crucial for passenger satisfaction and serves as a key indicator of airline health. Delays often result in increased costs for airlines and decreased crew morale, especially among those directly interacting with travelers seeking explanations for delays. The report also analyzed on-time performance for regional airlines, revealing several achieving higher on-time percentages than the global airlines list. Safair, South Africa's airline, topped the regional list with 93.82% on-time flights, followed closely by Oman Air (90.27%), Copa Airlines (88.22%), and Royal Jordanian Airlines (87.02%). Japan's leading airlines, Japan Airlines (80.90%) and All Nippon Airways (80.62%), maintained their position at the top of the Asia-Pacific list, but their on-time percentages declined slightly compared to 2023. Finally, King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia earned the fifth spot in Cirium's global airport on-time performance ranking
