The National Hurricane Center has issued advisories for Potential Tropical Cyclone 18, an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms in the Caribbean Sea.
According to the NHC, the system is expected to become Tropical Storm Rafael as soon as today as it moves toward Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and Cuba.A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Jamaica.By Wednesday, the system will remain offshore of the west coast of Florida. This will draw in deep tropical moisture and gusty conditions across Florida starting Tuesday through Thursday.
An area of low pressure could develop near the northern Leeward Islands in a few days. Some slow development of this system is possible after that time as it moves generally westward over the southwestern Atlantic.Storm Patty formed in the Atlantic on Saturday. Patty is losing its tropical characteristics as it moves east. Heavy rainfall is expected across portions of Portugal and Spain.
