The non-profit said it has identified “thousands” of examples of “clear cut” anti-Semitism that Facebook is yet to remove.
ADL highlighted seven posts it said it reported to Facebook multiple times, but that the platform had refused to take down, arguing they didn’t violate Facebook policies.
Among these posts are a picture of a protester holding a sign reading “Hitler Was Right,” a graphic with a quote from chief Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels promoting Jewish domination tropes, and conspiracy theories about prominent Jews. “That’s actually the low hanging fruit,” Adam Neufeld, the ADL’s vice president of Innovation and Strategy, told, explaining these posts came from public pages, but “private pages are where everything is really horrible.”
Though the ADL has been lobbying Facebook for content moderation improvements for years, this is the first time it has appealed to the oversight board that launched in October of last year, according to Neufeld.
last month that the military conflict between Israel and Gaza’s Hamas leaders had led to an uptick in anti-Semitic posts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
