Adam Sandler's production company Happy Madison tried to start a horror offshoot named Scary Madison, but The Shortcut's failure killed this dream.
While Adam Sandler’s production company Happy Madison is very successful, their first foray into horror derailed what could have been an ingenious career move for the star. Adam Sandler’s screen CV features a surprisingly diverse range of roles. While the actor is mostly known for his goofy comedies and occasional dark dramas, Sandler has starred in everything from the intense buddy cop thriller Bulletproof to the bizarre magical realist dramedy The Cobbler.
The Shortcut Was Supposed To Start Adam Sandler's Horror Career In 2009, Adam Sandler's Happy Madison created an off-shoot called "Scary Madison," designed to open up the production company to the possibility of creating more projects within the horror genre. Unfortunately, its first movie, The Shortcut, was a critical and commercial failure, and the studio never got going. Sandler was admittedly only a producer on The Shortcut, rather than an actor.
Critics agreed with this alternative title, warning viewers to steer clear of the horror effort. Despite a cast that included rising star Katrina Bowden and future leading man Dave Franco, reviews cited The Shortcut’s lack of gore and stakes and its derivative story as the movie's major flaws.
