A Southport actor has explained how his job helped him realise his sexuality

Sean Campbell, from Hillside, realised he was asexual after he was cast in roles - both heterosexual and gay - which required him to have love interests.

The Liverpool Hope University graduate told the ECHO: “When I was growing up, the term I now identify with hadn’t really come into play. It’s only been recently people have started to use the term and embrace it. So I did know about the LGBTQ+ community and the issues they faced but I never really saw myself in that community.

Sean has been acting for over a decade now - first getting involved for a Christmas production at his secondary school. Since then, he has gone on to play a key role in Farmageddon at Halloween, adult pantos and most recently played Louis Pastile in Hope Street Theatre’s Murder at Cadberry Manor. He said: “I would always just exaggerate feelings when acting because I hadn’t felt some of them like the characters would have. I get nervous when I have to kiss someone. I tend to turn away from casting calls that call for a romantic interest but if I do go for a character like that I hope the romance of it all is downplayed.“It’s very interesting because there’s not a lot of onstage asexual characters but in TV and film there are lots but most people just don’t realise it.
