An active shooter has been reported at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
The gunman, who was not immediately identified, opened fire at Constant Hall, where two people were injured. University and Norfolk police responded and the suspect is now deceased. Two victims have been transported to a nearby hospital, according to a statement issued by the university.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X,"FBI personnel are providing assistance and working with local authorities responding to the shooting at Old Dominion University. We will update as able." All classes and scheduled events at the campus have been canceled for the remainder of the day, university officials said."Please continue to avoid the area in and around Constant Hall where emergency personnel continue to work. As a reminder, Old Dominion University has canceled classes and operations on main campus for the remainder of the day, March 12, 2026. The next update will be at 12:30 p.m."University officials issued a warning to students on campus early Thursday, urging them to follow “run-hide-fight” protocols following an incident at Constant Hall. Constant Hall houses the College of Business at the university and features two lecture halls and 19 classrooms, according to ODU’s website.Newsweek“Active threat reported at Constant Hall,” the message read. “Follow Run-Hide-Fight protocols. Emergency personnel responding. Avoid area.”
