According to officials, a man armed with a rifle rammed a vehicle into a Michigan synagogue and was fatally shot and killed by security. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told reporters on Thursday that the suspect rammed a truck into the building and drove down the hall when security engaged him. The truck caught fire with the suspect inside. Bouchard confirmed that there were no injuries to the school's staff or children. One security staff member was knocked unconscious and pulled from the scene by fellow security guards. The security member is expected to be okay. FOX 2 confirmed with sources close to the investigation that the suspect attacker is a resident from Dearborn Heights. The individual also had ties to the Middle East and that his family had been killed in an airstrike that hit Lebanon recently. A chemical agent was also found inside the suspect's vehicle, according to FOX 2 sources, and that could indicate some sort of explosive was in the vehicle. The scene remains incredibly active.No other details about the suspect were released. The shooter's motivations are also unclear. On Thursday, police responded to a scene in West Bloomfield for an active situation. Sources said an active shooter threat was located in the area of Temple Israel. Smoke was seen spewing from the building with several police vehicles spotted around the perimeter. There were also several police vehicles seen in the area.FBI Director Kash Patel responded to the situation on social media, stating, "FBI personnel are on the scene with partners in Michigan and responding to the apparent vehicle ramming and active shooter situation out of Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield Township, Michigan."The Jewish Federation of Detroit ordered all Jewish organizations to go into lockout protocol.
