Acer significantly upgrades its top-tier gaming laptops, the Predator Helios 18 and 16, with performance boosts, display enhancements, and AI integration.
Acer is enhancing its premium gaming laptops, the Predator Helios 18 and 16, with performance and display upgrades launching later this year. Showcased at CES, the Predator Helios 18 AI boasts a dual-mode Mini LED display capable of switching between 4K resolution at 120Hz refresh rate or 240Hz at 1080p. While the maximum refresh rate is slightly lower than its predecessor's 250Hz, this trade-off allows users to enjoy both high resolution and high frame rates on a single device.
The Helios 18 AI can reach up to 1,000 nits of brightness and supports Nvidia G-Sync to minimize screen tearing, stuttering, and input lag. Internal specifications have also been boosted, featuring configurations with up to an Intel 15th Gen Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 mobile graphics, 192GB of DDR5 RAM, and 6TB of PCIe Gen 5 SSD storage. The inclusion of the RTX 5090 GPU, coupled with support for over 150 optimized AI applications for tasks like LLMs and image generation, justifies the 'AI' in its name. The Predator Helios 18 AI will be available in the US in May, starting at $2,999.99. The Predator Helios 16 AI also receives generational upgrades, including a 2560 x 1600 OLED display with a 240Hz refresh rate. It can be configured with the same processor and GPU as its larger sibling, along with up to 64GB of RAM and 4TB of PCIe Gen 5 SSD storage. Launching in June, prices start at $2,299.99. Both models feature swappable mechanical keys and sixth-gen AeroBlade metal fans, claimed to increase airflow by up to 20 percent compared to plastic fans. Both models also support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.
