“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not,' he said.

David Lynch poses for photographers upon arrival at the 70th Anniversary of the film festival, Cannes, southern France, Tuesday, May 23, 2017. Acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch has revealed that he can no longer leave his house since he has been diagnosed with emphysema.the 78-year-old director of “Eraserhead” and “Mulholland Drive” revealed that the diagnosis, caused by smoking, has left him homebound as he fears getting a respiratory illness of any kind.

“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not. It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” he said,Because of that, Lynch said it would be unlikely he would ever direct a movie again, although he said he “would do it remotely if it comes to it”, although, “I wouldn’t like that so much.”

“Smoking was something that I absolutely loved, but in the end, it bit me. It was part of the art life for me: the tobacco and the smell of it, and lighting things and smoking and going back and sitting back and having a smoke and looking at your work, or thinking about things; nothing like it in this world is so beautiful,” Lynch said. “Meanwhile, it’s killing me. So I had to quit.”also known as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , is a lung condition that causes shortness of breath.

Lynch’s last major film project was the third season of “Twin Peaks,” which aired on Showtime back in 2017. He also did the short film “What Did Jack Do?” in 2017.
