One of the men convicted in connection with the December 2018 murder of Chris Bagley in Cedar Rapids is back in jail on new charges.
Paul Hoff, 47, was listed as an inmate at the Linn County Jail Sunday morning on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, as well as unlawful possession of a prescription drug and public intoxication charges.
A criminal complaint says police arrested Hoff, who they say smelled strongly of alcohol, after a crash near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and 1st Street SW in Cedar Rapids. Officers say they found psilocybin mushrooms and cocaine on him and Hydrocodone pills in the vehicle. Hoff denied any of the drugs were his.. His mobile home is where investigators say Bagley was stabbed to death by Drew Wagner and Johnny Church . Hoff testified against Church in 2021 to get a charge of abusing a corpse dropped in the case, thenon drug and gun charges in a separate case. A U.S. Bureau of Prisons database shows Hoff was released from prison in late December.Bagley's remains were found at a home in southeast Cedar Rapids shortly after Hoff was arrested on his fedearl charges in 2019.
