The port has been planning the interchange improvement project for several years.
Lane reductions and ramp closures will be needed on State Route 47 and the 110 Harbor Freeway in San Pedro, beginning Monday, June 24. Suggested alternate freeway access ramps are at Gaffey Street in San Pedro and John S. Gibson Boulevard in Wilmington. Work on the interchange that connects the Vincent Thomas Bridge and the 110 Freeway in San Pedro will be impacted by lane reductions lasting a year according to the Port of Los Angeles which is overseeing and doing the work.
Also starting Monday, June 24, crews will fully close the northbound 1-110 onramp from Harbor Boulevard/Front Street overnight — from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. — to Wednesday, June 26, to re-stripe lanes and place traffic barriers. The project will replace the existing southbound SR 47 off-ramp from the Vincent Thomas Bridge, currently on the south side, with a new off-ramp on the north side. Additional improvements include realigning the existing on-ramp to the northbound 110 connector; modifying the northbound SR 47 off-ramp onto Harbor Boulevard; modifying the northbound SR 47 on-ramp onto the bridge toward Terminal Island; and improving local streets near the interchange.
