Just last week, Hawthorn captain and midfielder Tilly Lucas-Rodd posted a video on Hawthorn’s website and social media channels about their decision to come out as non-binary.In Groves-Little’s case, they first had to save up the money for the surgery, which can cost between $5000 and $20,000, depending on the surgeon and the level of health insurance coverage.
“Before I did my first contact session, I think it was about like three months or something because I was just so scared. I spent so much money on getting a chest, I was so scared that I would wreck it or something. Lucas-Rodd works in a school in Melbourne’s north, which has gender-diverse staff and students, and gradually came out there first after changing their pronouns in their email signature.
“But I also, then again, don’t feel like a male and don’t align with that label. So, the best way to describe it is non-binary, and that in-between and that fluidity within gender is where I fit in.
