The New Jersey actor is in England filming the upcoming Snow White movie.
While working on the movie this month, Zegler attended the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awards from London.
As backlash mounted to the circumstances that would’ve landed Zegler on her couch instead of on the red carpet, she responded again on Twitter.— rachel zegler “Goodness, folks!!” Zegler tweeted. “Appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions ... and awards shows alike. let’s all just respect the process and i’ll get off my phone.
Disney, the distributor of “West Side Story,” would’ve been the party to extend an Oscars invite to Zegler, had she received one, since each studio gets an allotment of tickets. Some speculated that Disney didn’t want Zegler missing work on “Snow White” Sunday to attend the awards. And some suggested that the Academy give the actor a presenter slot so she’d have to be there.The Hollywood Reporter says the “Snow White” production is in the process of changing its filming schedule toAmong those who spoke out in support of getting Zegler to the Oscars was Russ Tamblyn, the actor who played Riff in the 1961 film adaptation of “West Side Story” that won best picture.
“@TheAcademy as a voting member and the original Riff, let me say: it’s your duty to find Rachel a seat at the Oscars,” he tweeted. “she STARS in #Westsidestory which is nominated across the board. When they say representation matters, this is what that means. Please do right by her.”
