The former footballer and famous advocate has slammed Fifa's decision to award the tournament to Qatar, saying the sport is still dominated by 'money men'
, Mr Bosman said that it was “absurd” that world football authority Fifa awarded the tournament to Qatar in 2010, given its hostile desert climate, its almost non-existent connection to the game and its“It didn’t make sense then and it still doesn’t,” he says. “There is so much about this World Cup that is absurd and revolting.
Mr Bosman has experience with the game’s rich and powerful owners thanks to his legal action at the European Court of Justice against his former club, FC Liège. By giving players the freedom to move wherever they want, Mr Bosman has perhaps done more than anyone else to unleash football’s riches.“The people who chose Qatar were not interested in football,” he says.
“No one who believes in football could choose to hold it there. They are interested, first and foremost, in money.”“It was clear when they gave it to Qatar that there was something fishy going on, that Fifa members were bribed, and we have since seen proof of this,” he says.
