Liberal MP Joe McCracken has slammed the Victorian government’s controversial Rainbow Libraries toolkit as 'absolute garbage', with the Coalition pledging to dump the program if elected.
A Liberal MP, who came out as gay in his first speech to state parliament last year, has slammed a new set of guidelines that advise Victoria's librarians to ask primary school-aged kids about their gender pronouns. Liberal MP Joe McCracken has slammed the Victorian government’s controversial Rainbow Libraries toolkit as"absolute garbage", with the Coalition pledging to dump the program if elected.
Speaking about the toolkit earlier this week, the upper house Liberal MP said the toolkit was"inappropriate" and there was"no logical or rational reason" librarians should be having such conversations with kids. "The worst thing about the rainbow toolkit is that the victims are none other than the most vulnerable in our community, young children, many of whom are primary school aged and attend public libraries," he said
Library staff are advised to ask kids about their preferred pronouns, even if they are already"familiar" with a child who visits their library.
