Absolute Batman screams while lifting his own bat symbol in DC Comics cover
Thirty-four years before Absolute Batman, the Dark Knight's first experience using Venom predicted the tragedy of a Bane-like Bruce Wayne. Bane is one of Batman's most lethal enemies, not only due to his brilliant intellect but also because of his superhuman strength, product of the drug known as"Venom".
Thanks to Venom, Bane was able to "break the bat" and beat Batman to a pulp multiple times. As explained in Absolute Batman #11, Venom pushes its user's strength way past the boundaries of their body's limitations. On top of that, it allows the user to expand their skillset to superhuman levels. Combined with his natural determination, Absolute Bane's Venom enhancement has allowed him to master every form of combat and every fighting strategy. Batman: Venom Predicted Absolute Batman's Venom-Powered Dark Knight Absolute Batman #11; Written By Scott Snyder; Art By Clay Mann In Absolute Batman #11, Alfred Pennyworth recounts Bane's origin, explaining how Venom made Bane the perfect killing machine. Alfred also imagines a scenario where Absolute Batman faces Bane and loses, only surviving after his very own Venom transformation. Powered by Bane's drug, a Venom-enhanced Batman would also become a deadly, bloodthirsty living weapon. In 1991's Batman: Venom, Batman is unable to save a young girl trapped underwater due to his physical limitations. Crushed by guilt, Bruce Wayne takes up Venom, which makes Batman a superhuman for the first time in his career. Like Bane, Batman becomes addicted to Venom and eventually loses control of his own willpower. The Venom drug enhances Batman’s strength and stamina beyond human limits, but it corrodes his psyche in the process. Batman grows reckless and consumed by anger. The psychological toll is even more frightening than the physical, as Batman loses his sense of judgment and his whole identity. Once the epitome of discipline and self-control, the Dark Knight comes dangerously close to transforming into another murderous Bane. Remarkably, Batman: Venom foreshadowed Absolute Batman #11's Venom-enhanced Bruce Wayne. The sight of Batman transformed into a hulking, Bane-like figure underscores how terrifying he would be if stripped of his restraint. This “what if” vision underlines the nightmare of an unstoppable Dark Knight that Batman: Venom established decades earlier. Batman: Venom & Absolute Batman Both Deal With Bruce Wayne's Recovery From Failure Batman: Venom; Written By Dennis O'Neill; Art By Trevor Von Eeden, Russell Braun, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez, Willie Schubert, And Steve Oliff Both Batman: Venom and Absolute Batman #11 channel the same haunting idea of Bruce Wayne’s greatest enemy being the crushing weight of failure. In both stories, Batman confronts the possibility that his body and mind are insufficient against impossible odds, and the temptation of Venom symbolizes a shortcut to overcome those limits. Yet, the transformation it sparks turns Gotham’s protector into a monster. Still, both stories also affirm Batman's resilience. Bruce Wayne may falter or even succumb momentarily to forces like Venom, but his defining trait is his indomitable will. Batman ultimately refuses to let failure dictate his legacy. His refusal to remain broken or dependent on Venom is what elevates him beyond villains like Bane.
